Extra-curricular opportunities

At Rackheath we recognise the importance that clubs play in the curriculum. Throughout the course of the school year, children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of extra-curricular clubs before, during and after school.

In the academic year 2014-15 there were a wide variety of clubs. Sports clubs included football, rugby, netball, rounders, cricket, multi-skills, cross country and dance. In addition the school has a very successful choir, as well as recorder club, sewing club,  library club and homework club.

Since September 2015 the children from Year 3 to Year 6 have had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument with peripatetic teachers. At time of writing we have 30 children learning the guitar, flute, trumpet or violin.

Through the year the children get the opportunity to go a variety of trips. Over the last year classes and groups have been to the theatre, museums, Norwich Castle and the cinema in addition the whole school visited Banham Zoo. We have also been visited by authors and sportsmen and women as well by visiting theatre companies. Our Year 3 and 4 children go on a 2 night residential and Year 5 and 6 go for a week.

In addition on Fridays between 2.00 and 3.00 all children take part in Pick ‘N’ Mix activities where the children mix across the school to take part in activities like stop frame animation, lego, cheerleading, cooking, model making and many other activities.

The school is committed to competitive sports and many children took part in leagues and competitions in a total of 8 sports including cross country, cricket, swimming and rounders. In May 2014 our Year 3 children were selected to play on the pitch at Twickenham at half time in the Rugby Premiership Final. In 2014-15 the boys football team won the cluster league and the girl’s team won the North Norfolk Tournament before coming third in the county.

At the start of each half term a list of clubs is sent home and parents are invited to sign their children up for the clubs on lists which are in the office.
